Ahmad Alameddine charged after allegedly evading police

The 33-year-old man, with outstanding arrest warrants for serious firearm offences, had allegedly been on the run since August 3.

Detectives had planned to search a unit on Bundock Street in South Coogee on September 5 for an unrelated investigation.

Police said they arrived to see Mr Alameddine jump from the unit's window and scale a neighbour's fence to allegedly make his escape at around 9am.

Officers followed the man on foot and Traffic and Highway Patrol joined the search but they were unsuccessful in locating him.

At around 2pm, police were finishing their search of the Coogee unit when they spotted Mr Alameddine returning.

Officers chased him a short distance to Gumara Street in Randwick, where he was arrested for gun and drug offences including acquiring a pistol and ammunition subject to prohibition order, carrying a firearm in a manner likely to injure a person or property, resisting a police officer and trespassing.

He was taken to hospital with a foot injury and then to Maroubra Police Station.

Mr Alameddine was due to appear before Waverley Local Court on September 6 but he was unable to attend after sustaining the injury, his defence lawyer Ihab Jamal said.
